Someone wise once said, “It is in giving that we receive.”

We talk about how the new generation (kids, that’s us) is going to save the Earth and we are taking steps to do this. Greta Thunberg is just 17, and she went and did what most adults wouldn’t have dreamed of. She went to the UN and is now the leader of the resurgence against climate change. But climate change seems to have taken a backseat ever since the novel coronavirus has hit the entire globe.

What do you do when you’re freaked out? Other than run around like headless chickens and vent out at any and everybody. You pray, right?

So that’s what a 15-year-old boy from Dehra Dun named Abhinav Kumar Sharma did. He took a rather unprecedented step, emailing to the Prime Minister of India and asking all religious trusts to donate 80% of their savings to help battle Covid-19. In such a diverse country, one with strong, if not rock-solid, religious beliefs, this was a step on thin ice. The CC of the mail itself read, “CC: All gods (Bhagwan ji, Allah, Waheguru ji, Jesus)”

We all need to take bold steps like Abhinav if we as a generation can do anything to better the world we all need. What good are religions going to be if no one’s around to practice them? This is the time to rise above petty thought processes and help each other tide over these tough times.
