World Health Day is celebrated on the 7th of April.

Why is it celebrated?

In 1948 the World Health Organization declared 7th April as World Health Day. This  day marks the founding of WHO and aims to draw attention to important health issues facing the world each year.It is acknowledged by governmental and non-governmental organizations with interests in public health issues. World Health day is one of the 8 official global health campaigns marked by WHO like World Tuberculosis Day, World Immunization WeekWorld Malaria Day, World No Tobacco Day, World AIDS Day, World Blood Donor Day, and World Hepatitis Day.

What is this year’s theme?

There are different themes every year ranging from universal health coverage to food safety. This year’s theme is to acknowledge and thank our nurses and healthcare staff for all the hard work they have done. Even in these hard times of coronavirus, healthcare staff continue to do their duty selflessly and fearlessly risking their lives.

How is it celebrated?

We can celebrate it by educating people about diseases like Coronavirus, its spread and prevention. We can check out the WHO website and spread awareness about other diseases and their prevention in different ways. We can also show our gratefulness this year by thanking healthcare staff via social media.
