The chief guest for India’s Republic Day is Jair Bolsonaro, President of Brazil. Mr Bolsonaro, who has a military background, is the 38th president of Brazil. We wrote about this a while ago when we told you that he was recently in the news because he was being blamed for the burning of the Amazon rainforests. You can read that post here.

President of Brazil – Jair Bolsonaro

While Mr. Bolsanaro will be in India, the two countries (that is India and Brazil) will sign many agreements that will help both countries – this is something countries do to help each other in many areas, like agriculture, trade (buying and selling from each other), defence etc.

Brazil produces a lot of oil (that is used as fuel, like diesel, petrol etc) and it wants to sell oil to India – which will be good business for them. India will also sign these agreements to collaborate on oil and gas, including bio-fuel, science and technology, space and agriculture etc. What this means is that both countries will buy and sell and invest (money) in each other’s countries and that will benefit them.  India exports many products to Brazil and that is good for the people who manufacture (make) these products.

Mr Bolsanaro will arrive in India on Friday, the 24th of January.  After he arrives, he will meet President Ram Nath Kovind and then Prime Minister Narendra Modi. More than Brazilian 80 businessmen will also come to India with President Bolsanaro.
