Seeing a lot of news items about USA Presidential election debates and wondering what it is?

Well, let’s have a quick look at what these debates are

The people of the United States of America will soon elect it’s President in November 2020 and these debates are held for voters to know more about the aims, objectives, and opinions of the Presidential candidates and their parties.

Who holds these debates?

The Commission on Presidential Debates ( CPD)  is an NGO that holds and sponsors these debates amongst the Presidential candidates.

But why debates?

 These debates are held for voters to have better knowledge about the Presidential candidates and what they stand for. Its to get more clarity on why they should vote for one and not the other.

These debates are shown/broadcasted on television for a wider audience to see and that’s why they are so important.

How many debates do they hold?

This year, the CPD has decided to hold four debates. One of the debates was held on the 29^th of September in which the candidates spoke about the personal records of the two candidates, Donald Trump and Joe Biden, and debated about topics like the Supreme Court, the coronavirus pandemic, race and violence in cities, election integrity, and the economy of the USA.

There are to be two more debates between the Presidential candidates which are to be held on October 15^th and October 22^nd and one debate to be held between the Vice President candidates of both the parties on the 7^th of October.

These elections are held just in time before the USA citizens vote on November 3^rd, 2020.

Fun fact – More than 664 lakh people saw the first-ever televised Presidential debate in the year of 1960 which made the debate the most-watched broadcasts in the history of television.
