On 22 December 2020 Donald Trump awarded the Legion of Merit award to Prime Minister Narendra Modi; former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, and the Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison.

This is quite a big honour.

What is The Legion of Merit?

This is a top military award of the United States Armed Forces that is given for highly commendable service, admirable conduct and outstanding achievement. The award is given to members of the eight uniformed services of the United States as well as to political figures of foreign governments.

US President Donald Trump presented this prestigious award to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his decisive leadership in improving the strategic partnership of India and the US. India’s Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, accepted the award on behalf of PM Modi from the US National Security Advisor at the White House.

Other Indians that have won this honour in the past are Field Marshal Cariappa, General S.M Srinagesh, General Jadeja, Admiral Cursetji, General Singh, and General Singh Suhag.
