What is the current tension between India and China?
There’s been fighting between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galwan valley area in Ladakh. This was the first time such a fight broke out between the Indians and the Chinese in Galwan Valley since 1962.
What happened?
The tension in LAC area actually started in early May when thousands of Chinese troops came into Ladakh’s Galwan Valley. India accused China of occupying its territory and after that armies of both sides started fighting.
On June 15th an Indian team of soldiers, led by Colonel Santosh Babu of 16 Bihar Regiment went to talk to the Chinese side to tell them to go back to their territory – they had come ahead of what is called the LAC or Line of Actual Control in the Galwan Valley area.
The Chinese did not go back, and it is said that they attacked the Indian team. The Indians fought back and, in this fight, 20 Indian soldiers died there, and 17 died of injuries later. Many Chinese soldiers also died.
Many International Organizations and countries have told both India and China to stop the violence. India and China have had many confrontations (mini fights) in the past and have also fought one war, in 1962.
Now what?
One of the actions India has taken is to ban Chinese mobile apps, including Tik Tok, Shein and CamScanner. Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Law, Electronics and Information Technology Minister said on Twitter, “For safety, security, defence, sovereignty & integrity of India and to protect data & privacy of people of India the Government has banned 59 mobile apps. Jai Hind!” So basically, this has happened for our safety.
What might happen next?
Now the question in your mind must be, what will happen next? Well, no one knows for sure but there are a few things that we think might happen. While war is unlikely, if both the countries do not arrive at a peaceful solution higher-level conflict is bound to happen, but for now, all we can do is wait and watch.
