Kanye West, the renowned American rapper and songwriter, is running for President of the United States. He announced this statement on July 5th, 2020, on his Twitter account (Twitter is a social media platform). At first, people took it for a joke – why would a rapper run for president? Even so, West has already gained support from his close friend and the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk. Although it is not too late to run, he is too late to make the ballot in some states (as an individual). This is not the first time Mr. West has announced his intentions to run for President. In 2015, West announced that he had a great interest in joining the presidential campaign for the year 2020.

There are several steps West has to take before he can officially run for President. Directly speaking, it isn’t effortless and not everyone’s cup of tea. He has stated that he will run as part of the Republican party if Donald Trump decides to drop out of the presidential race altogether. In the unlikely event that this does happen, it still would not be a slam dunk for Kanye (meaning it should not be easy). There has been a massive uproar about Mr. West’s tweet ever since it has been released, but as of July 7th, 2020, an FEC spokesperson has stated that the paperwork required for the campaign has still not been made official.

In the United States of America, it is not uncommon that people vote based on personality and not the level of intellectuality. These odds might work in West’s favor as he is a notable celebrity amongst the people of the USA. They will consider the 43-year-old musician’s word who rose to fame as the result of a reality TV show based on his wife, Kim Kardashian’s family. Nevertheless, it seems that yet another candidate is in the running for the presidency, and who shall stop him from doing so?

There is not a lot of information about West’s bid as of now, but we can expect more details very soon. The world throws many surprising turns at us every day, but who could have anticipated such an odd twist of the tables?
