You, who captained us through so much. You, who gave us the World Cup. To you, our heartfelt thanks for being yourself. Saying Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a cricketer is an understatement. Saying a great captain would still be far off. The word that comes closest is icon.

Here are some facts about him
- Dhoni captained our World Cup winning team in 2011.
- He captained our T20 World Cup winning team in 2007.
- He set a milestone in 2013 by winning the Champions Trophy and becoming the only captain to win all three ICC trophies.
- His IPL captaincy was one of the most successful, with three titles to the team’s name (second only to Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians) and has taken his team, the Chennai Super Kings, to 9 finals (including the one during the CSK ban, in which he captained the Rising Pune Supergiants).
- He is the Only Indian captain to win five consecutive series
- He has hit the most international sixes as captain
- A sportsman by birth, Dhoni was great at football and badminton. He played at the district and club level in both the games.
- He broke the world record for most catches by a wicketkeeper in T20 cricket, in 2018
- He loves motorcycles and is also a dog lover
His career started in 2004 with a one day international against Bangladesh on the 23rd of December. Now, it ends, close to sixteen years later. His highest score achieved was 224 but not without one of the toughest struggles in the Indian cricket team, with his first few matches being very low scoring. His progression, from literally zero to hero, is one of the biggest transformations under the spotlight in India.
Dhoni played his first match in the Ranji Trophy from Bihar against Assam in 1999-2000. MS Dhoni also became the only 1st Asian captain and third overall to have captained his ODI side in 200 or more matches
