Who is Vikas Dubey?

Vikas Dubey, as you might have heard, is a gangster- turned politician based in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. A gangster turned into a politician! How did that happen? Well.. let’s see.

Vikas Dubey was first accused of murder in 1990. To date, he has over 60 criminal charges against his name! That’s a lot. So, where did he turn into a politician? In 1995, he joined the Bahujan Samaj Party. He won the district elections, while he was in jail! And, then he turned gangster again. In 2001, he was accused of killing the BJP (Bhartiya Janata Party) leader, Santosh Shukla.

This is all informative, but why are we talking about Vikas Dubey now?

It is no surprise that Vikas Dubey was a wanted criminal in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Recently, in July he went to the Mahakal Temple, in Ujjain, Lucknow. He was spotted by security, and after a while revealed his identity. He was dragged to the police, and after a fight confessed to them as well, who he was. His associates were also found, and some were killed.

To escape the police, Vikas fled from Kanpur. A nationwide hunt was launched to find him. Him and his associates attacked suddenly during this hunt. 8 policemen’s lives were lost in the process. Vikas Dubey was finally found in Madhya Pradesh. He was then arrested.
