Sheikh Hasina is the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Bangladesh is one of India’s neighbouring countries. As one of India’s neighbours, Bangladesh has certain links with India and she is here to discuss those points – like trade, fighting terror and security issues.

Why did she visit India?

Sheik Hasina is visiting to strengthen relations between the two countries. Other than that, neighbouring countries also like to do trade and make pacts. A pact is a formal agreement between individuals or parties. So, India and Bangladesh too signed seven pacts – in areas like water, culture, education etc.

Also, as you might have seen an article in I Kid You Not about the NRC (National Register of citizens), the two leaders (Prime Minister Modi and Sheikh Hasina), also talked about this. The NRC is a process in which every person living in Assam needs to show ID proof that they are Indian citizens. Assam is close to Bangladesh and many people have come to India (to Assam) from there over the years. The two Prime Ministers discussed the matter.
