A Father’s Love. A Poem

Composed by Ishika Kawatra, a grade 10 student.

They were walking down the street
Hand in hand, feeling the sun’s warm heat
And then they spotted a balloon seller
Who was selling balloons of different shapes and colour

Composed by Ishika Kawatra, a grade 10 student.

They were walking down the street
Hand in hand, feeling the sun’s warm heat
And then they spotted a balloon seller
Who was selling balloons of different shapes and colour

She ran towards him in great delight
And in the fear that stumble she might
“Kezia-Kezia , careful!“ he shouted
The distance between them he finally commuted

Her gaze went from one balloon to another
Of all the balloons she was filled with enamour
Which shape? Which colour? These questions occupied  her mind
Which one to buy and which ones to leave behind?

“Papa Papa can I buy them all? “
She looked up to her father who was standing tall
He asked the vendor one balloon’s price
A hundred each came back the answer, much to his surprise

That is a little too much, he thought
How would he make her happy, he fraught
And then he saw the sparkle in her eyes
And how much desire she had expressed
He was willing to make as much sacrifice
And thought to himself – I will spend less on the rest

I will not buy that watch I had been saving for
But my little girl’s wish I just can’t ignore
His heart poured pure love for her
How could he refuse her anything ever?

“Sure my princess” he then replied
How on the earth could have he denied?
He gave the money to the vendor to deploy
And with the balloons in her hand , she danced with joy

And then he saw the smile on her lips
And the glee in her eyes
If she had asked , he would have given her the skies
Her giggle and laughter filled first his ears
And then his heart with immeasurable joyce
