Yesterday (February 11th , 2020) the people of Delhi voted to elect their leaders.

AAP ( Aam Aadmi Party ) won 62 out of the 70 seats. The AAP beat the BJP and Congress in a strong fight. The BJP party won 8 seats out of the 70 seats and the Congress did not win any seat.

Arvind Kejriwal, who is the founder and leader of AAP and is also the Chief Minister of Delhi right now, is going to remain the Chief Minister for another five years.

Who is Arvind Kejriwal?

Arvind Kejriwal has been fighting against corruption for a long time. In 2011 Kejriwal and many others formed an anti-corruption group. They wanted to bring in a Bill (like a rule or law) called the Jan Lokpal Bill which aimed to investigate corruption cases (against many government officials). This made Kejriwal famous – after this he formed AAP.

What did AAP focus on to win this election?

AAP asked voters to vote for them as they believe in “politics of work”. They have done a lot of great work in providing education and health care to those who don’t have enough money. Expert’s believe that AAP’s focus on local issues helped them with this win.

The voter turnout for this election was 62.59% .- which means that 62.5% of those who were registered to vote came out and voted.

Also this election there were 43,000 NOTA votes.

What is NOTA ?

NOTA stands for None Of The Above. This option is given to voters if they choose to not vote for any of the candidates standing for elections. NOTA is
