Shooting stars are actually little pieces of rock or dust that are known as meteors. They burn brightly as they enter the earth’s atmosphere. And that’s the trail of light we see.

Can they hurt anyone as they fall?

Not really. Most meteoroids very small and burn up before they reach the Earth.
