It’s been two months since PM Modi announced a nationwide lock-down and since any kid has gone outdoors to play, but we e-meet our friends every day, thanks to technology, which has become an integral part of our lives.

Even trying to imagine a life without any technology would instill fear in our hearts.  And all of this technology (or most of it, anyway) is owned and run by five major companies, collectively known as the Big Tech. These companies play a crucial part in our lives (if you’re a tech whiz, then even more so) and without you realizing it, make huge profits off you.

Which are the Big Tech Companies?

The companies in question are Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Apple, and Amazon. Now, of course, you understand what I’m talking about.

First off, Google.
Everyday, at least one of your family members logs onto this search engine and spends a good deal of time on it. Be it work-related, school-related, or just an innocent three-year-old watching cute cat videos, Google has a huge influence and a vice-like grip.

Secondly, Microsoft.
Even this article is being written on one of its products. Our school curriculum itself includes studies of Excel, PowerPoint, Word and more. Even the online classes happening currently are on Microsoft Teams. It may not be a Google or a Firefox, but Microsoft isn’t any small league player.

Next comes Facebook. In itself, it was a big enough company, but has recently expanded by buying WhatsApp and Instagram, because the company thought that they would overtake them in the field of social media. Huh. Old people paranoia. What can I say?

Now, Apple. A company whose phones cost about a lakh and are selling like hot cakes. Weird combination. Apart from phones, Apple also manufactures laptops and tablets and MP3 players and a list of other stuff which would take a loooooooong time to list. A fact: Apple was started by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniack and Ronald Wayne in a garage.

Last but definitely not the least, Amazon. The largest company when it comes to online business. Owned by Jeff Bezos, the richest man in the world, it is king if you need anything, from mobile phones to dishwasher liquid- it’s your company. Jeff Bezos’ net worth stands at about 113 billion dollars. Just a side detail. Wink, wink.

All right then. I’ve filled your head with information. My job here is done.
