The ongoing India-China clashes have wreaked havoc on the borders since last month. Since the 5th of May, Indian and Chinese troops have been engaged in an aggressive face-off, which has killed at least 20 Indian Soldiers and approximately 43 Chinese Soldiers on the 15th of June 2020.

In late May, Chinese forces objected to Indian road construction along the Galwan River which flows from the disputed Aksai-Chin region to Ladakh in India. It is one of the upstream tributaries of the Indus River. The region of Aksai Chin is a disputed region because it hasn’t been decided if the region will be a part of India or China. This led to clashes between Indian and Chinese troops in the mid-20th century around the 1960s and have been continuing until now.

China is trying to take control of Galwan Valley, and its army has said that t Indian soldiers twice crossed the LAC (Line of Actual Control). This infuriated the Indian soldiers who further proclaimed that China had crossed their territory (India) and were secretly trying to spy on them from Indian Grounds. During the stand-off the Indian Government reinforced the region with 12,000 additional workers.

To make the situation better, US President, Donald Trump has stated that the US will help calm down the condition in Galwan Valley. India has also started boycotting Chinese goods due to the India-China rift that led to the killing of 20 Indian Soldiers at the border.

The Indian Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh has told the military, during a review meeting on Sunday that the government has given the forces freedom to “give a befitting reply”, if there is further escalation from the other side.

I am rather convinced that the India-China clashes will de-escalate.
