the Independence Day Poetry Contest held in 2020

Today is the day India was set free,
Also the day when the British did flee.

Through the freedom struggle sacrifices were made,
Every now and then to make British – India fade.

A day of constant reminder of India’s past,
For the flag, the glory of a country so vast.

Gandhi, Nehru and other great minds,
The freedom fighters of many different kinds.

Our land has hundreds of learned sages,
In a country known for bravery for ages.

Amazing rivers, waterfalls and fountains,
We are in awe of her majestic, high mountains.

India has exquisite culture that no country can beat,
Scrumptious food with lentils and wheat.

Artists, poets and musicians we all want to meet,
With a humble namaste we always do greet

Now coming to our national flag,
The tri-colour truly is something to brag.

Saffron stands for courage and strength,
While white is for peace throughout India’s length.

Green colour stands for growth of the land,
That’s what makes the flag so grand.

I love my country inside out,
That’s what today is all about!
