Written by Aarav Singh, a grade 5 student.
It all started when I put my Percy Jackson book on the bedside. I got up to switch the light off. Coming back to the bed, my head instantly hit the pillow. Soon not knowing what was happening, my head started spinning and the dream started.
When I woke up in my dream, it was the 1st day of school reopening after the summer holidays. I had my usual routine of getting ready. When it was 8:15 am, I left the house for the school bus. But instead of the bus, I saw a Ferrari for everyone! They were all grey. But the moment I entered, it turned into fiery orange.
My school clothes and shoes changed into a black leather jacket and sneakers. As for headgear, I was wearing a Ray-Ban. I was not expecting this on the first day. Apparently, I had attended driving school for 5 years. I was maneuvering through the traffic. On open roads, I was easily above a hundred kilometers an hour. Reaching school was a whole different surprise.
As I entered through the gates of what used to be my school, I could not believe my eyes. Instead of two school buildings, there were stalls of street food. The food was being sold for free! Other than that, there was just an open field with kids cheering as cars performed the scariest of stunts. And not any cars, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Bugattis all of the colours I didn’t even think were real! Out of the mess, I found my two best friends. Apparently, they also found these events rather strange. But nonetheless, they too were enjoying it! Borrowing a Bugatti from my friend, I rolled up to the stunt arena.
The other cars parted as I entered. I do not know how but I knew what to do naturally. Doing a 360 ° drift five times in a row, I realized there were ramps. After seeing that the other people watching were looking bored, I did the craziest thing that could be done. I took the ramp that went 45 feet in the air.
Rather tense, I slammed the accelerator. That was a bad idea. By the time the back wheels of the car left the ramp, the speedometer needle flew past the 200. The audience gasped. I did what I had to. I was shooting up like a rocket. At that moment, I whacked the steering wheel to the left. I do not know how fast I was spinning in mid-air but a counter on my left was shooting up all the way to ten! As I said, I do not know how but I knew what to do. As the 2nd ramp came into view, I pressed a big rainbow-coloured button labelled ‘N2O’ and slammed the accelerator. The audience probably knew what I was doing as half of them covered their eyes with their hands. I smoothly landed the ramp speeding like mad. I slammed the brakes as I did a 360 ° drift to end the stunt. As I stepped out, the crowd went wild. My friends rushed to me and pointed to the giant electronic board flashing the number in the rainbow. It read ‘360° spins’ on top. Reading it made me feel dizzy. I fell to the floor with everyone crowding around me. The next second, I was in my classroom.
My teacher was ordering me to sit down. She wore a bright turquoise dress. That’s odd, she never wears that color. She did not seem to mind the leather jacket. My classmates were staring at me, so I decided to sit. But as I was about to sit down, the table and chair moved away! I chased it around but the teacher did not mind. Soon it was on top of one of my classmates. Well, it was phasing through. So as I was about to sit on my chair which was in my friend’s hand. As I sat, my friend screamed in pain and the teacher shouted at me. I followed the table as it shifted to an empty space. But the moment I aligned with it, I phased through the floor and started my 4 –story fall. Well, I just phased through the floor. But the moment I touched the floor, a bomb exploded. Well, I think that it happened. The whole school building shattered to bits and I was suspended in mid-air. I was not falling. I was a BIRD!!
I saw my fellow bird mates flying away to hunt for food. I didn’t do what I had to do, so I tried to flap what felt like my arms… and it worked!! I flapped extremely fast and I was zipping past everything. I passed my flock of birds, a plane, a group of seagulls, and many other things. I was now out of stamina but I could not stop! Once I felt like I couldn’t go on, my wings stopped and I was falling. As I fell lower, I hit a tree and my head throbbed. I hit the floor hard, which hurt. It was a really hard fall because slowly my vision blacked out. I thought I was gone for good. But then I woke up in my bedroom. My side of the bed and my shirt were dripping with sweat. I opened the curtains to see the time on the clock. It showed 8:15 am. It almost felt the dream was a vision about what was going to happen today. I felt stressed about the day, but when I realized today was Sunday and my holidays were still going on, I released a sigh.
My mom, not knowing why I sighed, asked me to get ready quickly because if not, I’d be late for guitar class. I hung my head as I went to take a shower in a way hoping that my dream could be reality. (Except for the blacking out part)
